My Family My Traditions
 
  My family and I celebrate Christmas every year. My mother and five brothers all receive gifts from each other. My mother says any gift that is made with love is one from the heart.
This is why I make all of my gifts every year with my five brothers.
We make cards and toys for each other out of fabric and wood.
My mother and father did not have Christmas growing up. They did not have enough money in their families to afford such a luxury. My mother says they only had enough money to feed themselves and take care of the farmland they lived on. My father grew up in the city and it was hard for his family to celebrate birthdays and Christmas.This is why this tradition is so important and fun in my family. We all get to make gifts for one another and make food together as well. My mother and father are great cooks. They always make sure we have pie, chocolate cake, and a butterball turkey. This is one of my favorite traditions. The only bad part of this tradition is not seeing my grandparents on Christmas day. They past away a year ago. My mother says she's still shining her light on us everyday, we do not see her. This is why this is my favorite family traditions. It means we can all come together and laugh with each other. We even make fun of each other in our Christmas sweaters. This is a tradition I will pass down to my future family, because it brings out the joy in my family. It's the best gift anyone could ask for.

Professional Organizations and Resources (For Elementary Students)

How A teacher would identify an ELL Student’s level of Academic “Readiness

  • Teachers can create "Student Home Language Survey," to help understand the child's oral and language needs (Colorin Colorado, 2015, p.1).
  • Teachers can "identify educational background," by creating an informal interview to promote readiness (Colorin Colorado, 2015, p.1).
  • Teachers can investigate "levels of English proficiency," to promote readiness by asking basic simple conversational questions in groups of two (Colorin Colorado, 2015, p.1).
  • These identifiers can be applied to all grade levels but it is tailored to elementary school students.
The Characteristics of an Effective ELL Instructor
  • ELL Instructors must understand "an effective and good teacher has an important role in students' performances and their success " (Zamani, Branch, & Ahangari, 2016, p.69).
  • ELL Instructors must make sure "experience is useful only when the teacher continually engages in self-reflection and modifies classroom techniques to better serve the needs of students" ( Zamani, Branch, & Ahangari, 2016, p.69).
  • ELL Instructors must understand if a "teacher is not aware of the learner's expectation and needs related to the course, it will have negative outcomes regarding the students' performance"(Zamani, Branch, & Ahangari, 2016, p.69).
  •  ELL Instructors must also be an "communicator, advocate, and emphatic educator" (Haynes, 2015, p.1)
 
 Three Common Language Proficiency Assessments for Reading or Writing
 
  • Teachers must use " high-interest, low-vocabulary books and nonfiction texts may be options for reading assessments" (Alberta Education, 2012, p.4).
  • Teachers must remember in " using picture prompts for speaking and writing ensure images are age-appropriate" (Alberta Education, 2012, p.4).
  • Teachers must also note "to be effective, assessment must recognize the diversity of learners and allow for differences in styles and rates of learning"(Alberta Education, 2012, p.4).
 Three Teaching Strategies used by experienced ELL teachers when planning Effective Lessons
 
In order for the ELL teacher to plan effective lessons with meaning, they must:
  • "Ensure that instructional objectives involving authentic learning are both compelling and comprehensible. 
  • Realize that complex problems require teachers as well as students to become learners.
  • Constructivism is not for teachers who already know everything!                                               
  • In schools where students are exposed to a variety of representational formats for knowledge (text, visual, oral, figurative, etc.), students can choose to which modes they are most receptive" (Diaz-Rico, 2013, Chap. 3).

Late Night Chocolate

   I threw him on the couch. I opened the door butt naked, and I knew this would get him standing at attention. I wanted to punish him for not answering my calls when I needed him, and
I wanted to silence his mouth for not paying any attention to me when he sees me on campus.
Well, no that was a lie, I'm usually the one barely looking in his direction when I'm flirting with his line brother. But you cannot blame me. Its a habit I refuse the break.
 "Did you miss me?" I'd asked as I unbuttoned his pants.

Detox daddy

    I needed a backrub, and he was just the one to do. Forty- Four years of age, owner of his own truck company, divorced with kids grown. I had no reason not to let him in my place.
"Come here, Come here."
      He states this so freely while I stare at him in my pink pajamas and love-struck eyes. I kissed him, then sat in his lap as he eased his hands down my back. My back hurt from working two jobs back to back that weekend, and I was glad he actually was trying to help my frustrating tension.
"My knees are starting to hurt, sitting like this."
     I said with a smile. He didn't want me to go anywhere though. Just stay his lap forever staring at someone whom looked like the rapper Common. I started to touch his soft face.
"No one, gets to do this," he says and I smile again as he kisses my hand. Soon it was getting late and I said that I had to wake up early for work. "When can I see you again?" I said with a sad face looking into his dark chocolate eyes. "Just let me know boo, I'll work with you, on your schedule."
I smiled and said "soon." With another kiss he left me there on my couch again, day dreaming, about receiving another detox day.

Five Girls and Me...

"Where am I?"
      I know I am somewhere between Greenville and Drunkville but back in 2009, I did not care.
I was a senior, about to graduate, and had a GPA over a 3.0, so I felt entitled to dance the night away.
Little did I know then and now that sometimes I can find myself in the worst situations just to have fun. This was almost one of them.
        As I woke up on a bed, all I saw were pretty little arms around me. They all were different complexions like a fruit salad or something all passed out like I was.
One was chocolate, she had beautiful skin tone with big boobs to match, while the rest were light brown skin, mocha, and caramel with hourglass figures or pear shaped. I was at the foot of the bed in a red dress kind of like one Selena would wear and I could barely open my eyes much less move. I just kept thinking "I need to get the fuck out of here," but my legs were not getting the picture. Wearing heels is a necessity if your going out as a diva, but tonight I just felt stupid because my feet hurt and they were loving the king size bed I was in.  All of a sudden, I heard a bottle, the lights went out, and guys started to enter the room. The bottle had a sound I've heard before at an ice cream birthday party, and I knew what was coming next. The tall, dark, and handsome men of a certain fraternity started walking towards us with whip cream bottles in their hands.
My mind was like "what the hell?" So I proceeded to run into the bathroom with another girl and lock the door. Once I saw the lights were back on, and all was clear, I went immediately home. I called my sober friend who always wanted me but I would never give him the chance in hell to take me home. He of course obliged.
"I want the ten piece nuggets, and a sweet tea."
I stated this at the window at McDonalds  when we were in the drive thru.
Sober Friend: "Sweetie, its breakfast time."
"Awe man."
I looked at the time and it was after 7am, I had to have been at the after party until then. I couldn't believe I was almost attacked by whipped cream but again it was just another night.

The Brothers from another Mother

I knew what I was doing. Yet, I did not care. They were both younger than me. Both stood at least 5'9, light skin, pretty brown eyes, and were walking me to the car.
"My feet are killing me," I said.
Light Skin One: "Don't worry I will rub them when we get to your place."
Light Skin two: "Get in shorty, lets go."
I piled myself in the front of the car and told them where to drive.
As they entered my place, I could still feel the alcohol in my veins. I think I had four drinks but it could have been five. I knew better but again I did not care.
Light Skin two: "Wow, welcome to the nursing home."
I laughed with the other one but told him to not diss my place.
Light Skin Two: "It was just a joke shorty, may I use your bathroom?"
I  nodded and headed in first to rinse out my sink, put up my makeup, and spray some bathroom cleaner in the sink. I am so weird when guests come over my house. I didn't want him to think I was a dirty girl, or did I?
Light Skin two: "I'm use to shitting outside sweetie because of the army, you don't have to impress me."
    I smiled and opened the door to him, he thanked me while smiling back looking at my red dress. It was brand new with a sweetheart neckline, spaghetti straps, and flowed out at the bottom. My hourglass shape looked beautiful in it.
     My black open toed heels were off, and I sat on the couch next to the other one. He started to kiss my neck and rub my shoulders. It felt so good to be touched. My frat boy who I was currently crushing on was paying me no attention that night so I decided to flirt and dance with whoever I wanted for awhile. I was glad it was a twenty-eight year old first grade teacher and a twenty-two year old army man.
Light Skin two: "So you gonna put on a movie shorty?"
"Y'all really want to watch a movie?"
         They both said yeah. So I got up and put on a vampire flick. I thought it was appropriate. They both cut the lights off and I could feel two sets of hands on me. An army man and teacher all over me. My legs were being caressed by the army man, my arms the teacher. It felt amazing but I knew better and didn't want this, like this, tonight. All of a sudden, the army man's phone rang and his friends were outside my place to pick him up. The teacher walked him out and when he came back I told him that I needed some sleep.  He said okay. As they both left my mind wandered again, two sets of hands on me at once, and I slowly began to touch myself until I came and fell asleep. Just another night.

Saying goodbye!
